German term

freier Luftquerschnitt

German to English Tech/Engineering Food & Drink Refrigeration Devices for Food Counters

From a text about cooling units for food counters. If there is such a thing as an "open-air cross-section", I can't find any tangible proof of this. But if it's not that, then what would you call this? TIA for your help. BTW, all these question will be graded in two or three days' time.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jun 2, 2004:
I suppose it MIGHT be "free air cross-section" if the "frei" is related to the Querschnitt and not the Luft. But quoting a German source rather than a native English one makes me extremely sceptical of that translation, especially when it only gets two Google hits. I don't trust non-native sources, though in some cases they can be all there is.

The "air" is superfluous as it is obvious from the rest of the question what is meant.
