German term

Regel-Modi

German to English Tech/Engineering Materials (Plastics, Ceramics, etc.) ASTM

What ASTM E647 contains is test procedures. These are represented as items to choose from in a drop-down list, and hence referred to as "Regel-Modi". My dicos don't go that far, nor does the special glossary I'm using.

Any help appreciated. TIA.

My doubt Does "Regel" refer to the test procedures/specifications or to programming parameters being set? I've seen the phrase used in videogames and cell phone programs...

The title of ASTM E647-05 is 'Standard Test Method for Measurement of Fatigue Crack Growth Rates'

From the desription on the website:

1. Scope

1.1 This test method² covers the determination of fatigue crack growth rates from near-threshold to Kmax controlled instability. Results are expressed in terms of the crack-tip stress-intensity factor range (Δ K), defined by the theory of linear elasticity.

1.2 Several different test procedures are provided, the optimum test procedure being primarily dependent on the magnitude of the fatigue crack growth rate to be measured.

1.3 Materials that can be tested by this test method are not limited by thickness or by strength so long as specimens are of sufficient thickness to preclude buckling and of sufficient planar size to remain predominantly elastic during testing.

control modes

Could work. "Regeln" is often translated as control. It sounds as though some process could be being controlled here.

Specimen precracking was performed per the recommended ASTM E647 guidelines. ....

The test was performed in a constant ΔK control mode; as such, the growth rate, outside the effects of the over- and under-load events, should remain constant. Under ideal conditions, a constant ΔK test will result in a constant growth rate. On a crack length versus cyclic life plot, a constant ΔK test results in a linear response with a constant slope (growth rate)

...the following *control modes* are available:
Constant load - cycling between two load values
Constant ∆K - cycling to achieve constant stress intensity range
Decreasing ∆K - cycling to achieve exponentially decreasing or increasing stress intensity range
Constant KMax - cycling with K maximum held constant
