German term

Hospitalismusprophylaxe

German to English Medical
Does anyone know what this is called in English, please?

I can't find it in Roche, and Eurodicautom is down.

Wider context is an ad for disinfectant materials. I just need the English translation. Hopefully one of the medical experts here will know. TIA for your help.

Prevention of hospitalism

General term referring to damages resulting from hospitalization, in particular resulting infections as well as influences of the hospital atmosphere on children and adults.
This term includes, but is not limited to infections. It also refers to behavioral changes resulting from hospitalization, as seen, for instance, in children in orphanages.
One site mentions "psychosocial hospitalism,
physical non-infectious hospitalism and infectious hospitalism" (www.khk.be/ects/vak.asp?Vak=45&optie=7)
Unfortunately, in the US, the term hospitalism has recently also been used for physicians' tendency to become "hospitalists". (http://www.ucsf.edu/synapse/archives/Feb27.97/features.html) I have never seen it used in that sense in German.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Very hard to choose between these two answers, and my choice wasn't made any easier by the lack of peer grades. Both answers were very helpful. But my own additional research has shown me that there is such a thing as "hospitalism". I am using GB English, so there shouldn't be any confusion with the other form of "hospitalism" mentioned by Teresa. Finally, "prevention of hospitalism" seems like the neatest solution, so I'll run with it. Thanks very much to both of you for your assistance."

prevention of hospital-borne infections

In the U.S., the focus has only just shifted from treating to preventing these; see link below
Hospital staff are now required to disinfect their hands...

for what hospitalism is; it includes changes in behavior (esp. for babies), not just infections.
