German term

Beleg

German to English Other Apparel
As in: angeschnittene Belege

Again this is a workwear catalogue, and the item in question is a shirt.

The full text is as follows:

Langarm, mit angeschnittenen Belegen an den vorderen Kanten, als Knopfleiste abgesteppt, mit sechs Ringdruckern in der vorderen Kante und einem Ringdrucker im Kragen zu schließen.

Thanks for any help.

Facing

I think; it's a double layer of material, in this case reinforced to provide extra strength for the buttonholes.

neutral Alexander Schleber (X) : Even though it sounds logical, I can find no substantiation on Google or in my dictionarty. Your German site only gives the defintion but not the translation.

decorative trim

My otherwise genial textile dictionary has no translation for "Beleg". This is probably synonymous to "Belag", which is translated as "covering". But I think "Besatzartikel" (decorative trim) may be closer.

neutral David Moore (X) : Decorative trim? On a working shirt??

Why not, many working clothes include coloured trims.

... stepped as a button strip.

Don't think it's a misprint for Belag or your text is from Austria where I understand the word is meaningless in that context.

Backing retains the flavour of the doc. back-up. The all-purpose 'units' or 'widgets' don't work this time.
