I'm doing this little job about actuators where most of the text has already been translated, but a few random words here and there still need translating. I'm rather stuck on "Designstudie", especially after reading the following explanation of it in the German Wikipedia:
"Eine Designstudie (auch Konzeptstudie genannt) ist ein Gegenstand, der von einem Designer entworfen und gefertigt wurde, um ein möglichst radikales Konzept dem Publikum, etwa auf einer Ausstellung, vorzustellen und aufgrund der Reaktion der potentiellen Käufer oder der professionellen Kritiker abzuschätzen, was von dieser Studie in eine Serienfertigung übernommen werden kann.
Designstudien sind insbesondere bei Konsum- und Luxusgütern ein gängiger Weg, die Marktfähigkeit eines Entwurfes zu beurteilen. Besonders Kraftfahrzeughersteller bedienen sich dieser Möglichkeit und zeigen regelmäßig auf Automobilausstellungen solche Designstudien vor."
So this is not just some vague abstract study, but a concrete object. Would "prototype" fit here? Or is something slightly different meant? TIA for your help.
