I would translate it as this, if you don't have any better context. For example in a banking Group cheques and payments could be processed by the Parent, but be "tramitati" (go through) by branches in subsidiaries. Also a lot of business like leasing and insurance passes through branches but is processed and delivered elsewhere. In many contexts you talk about "origination" of business and sometimes of payments.
