Does anyone know how this type of TV genre would "translate" into English?

(drama) serial

It's a bit of a catch-all term. Italian television companies tend to use it to refer to in-house drama productions that keep the same characters over a number of episodes.
You would probably want to mention the genre in English as well, so you might call "La Squadra" a police serial, for example.

"Fiction" might well be composed of just one episode; a serial is always composed of many

TV drama productions

Hi Francesco,
Thanks for the "codicillo". Seems to me that they're usually composed of several episodes, but maybe not always. Anyway, I eventually decided to use the above phrase. If I get any feedback from the customer I'll let you know
