Italian term

spalletta

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
I'm translating a list of spare parts for surgical operating tables and as always it's a real headache trying to work without any real context. One of the terms which reoccurs often is "spalletta". Here are a couple of examples, the others are all very similar.
LAMIERINO COPERTURA SPALLETTA
SPALLETTA DX APP. TESTA ("app" dovrebbe essere "appoggia")
Any ideas? Thanks, Sarah.
Proposed translations (English)
2 shoulder

Discussion

Sarah Gregg (asker) Feb 27, 2011:
Thinking about this, could it be a sort of "abutment"?
Sarah Gregg (asker) Feb 26, 2011:
Thanks, but I don't think this is a reference to the anatomical shoulder, partly because if it was, I belive they would have used the proper word "spalla" instead of the diminutive, but also because in that case it wouldn't be a part of a head rest. I'm very dubious.
