I need your opinion. In the following sentence in what sense is the word "intervento" being used?
L'intento del XXX e oggi in particolare quello di incrementare e consolidare l'espansione nell'Est-Europa, dove l'INTERVENTO nella Repubblica Ceka puo costituire un punto di appoggio molto significativo; l'INTERVENTO particolare nella Rep. Ceka ha carattere vocazionale, mentre costituisce un ricupero di valori per la Chiesa Cattolica, dove eventi politici avevano cancellato gran parte della vita religiosa.
Should it simply be translated as intervention or would presence, operation or any other translation work better?

Marpa, you forgot to mention what the author is talking about. At first I thought it was a military intervention, but reading on I understood that perhapa the subject is the Catholic Church. Now, are we talking about a one-off INTERVENTION on some specific issue, or a continued PRESENCE of the Catholic Church in the Czech REpublic, or of some kind of active OPERATION conducted by the Church in that Country? It's impossible to tell form the context you supply.
