日本語 term

自動車車庫

日本語 から 英語 技術/工学 自動車/車&トラック

This is talking about uses of a building.
What exactly is a 自動車車庫? Is it a parking lot? A parking garage? Some other kind of vehicle storage?
Thanks.

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Parking spaces 駐車台数:18 台+1 台(障害者用)+1 台(荷捌用)=20 台
駐輪台数:5 台
This is all the parking spaces the building has, so if it's a parking garage, it's a small one.

"automobile storage lot / building" or just "garage"

車庫 usually desribes a lot, or depot for storing cars, buses or other vehicles.

If this is an enclosed building, then "garage" should be fine. ...or maybe "automobile storage building" / "automobile storage" would work.

Good luck!

Parking lot

No need to get fancy. I would just go with "Parking lot", or possibly "Parking garage," though that would imply indoor storage, which probably isn't applicable here. BTW, depending on where you are in Japan, 20 parking spaces can be considered pretty big. =)

neutral humbird : Despite your comment, question indicates this is covered area, namely inside of a building. I would go for "indoor parking lots".

I think that "indoor parking lot" sounds very awkward and unnatural. A parking lot is by definition outside, as a "lot" is a plot of land. Only 972 English Google hits for "indoor parking lot" supports that.
agree Kurt Hammond : I would just say "parking"

agree Duncan Adam : I agree - 'parking' is fine. And yes, 20 spaces is not small in a Japanese city!
