UK: importuning for sex ('immoral purposes')
Arguably works for the UK / England & Wales where used to cover homosexual (and lesbian) approaches to both males and females, though not necessarily for US American consumption, a virtually literal translation overlapping with the Portugues concept.' I'm a bit surprised no one else has so far picked up on the point.'
Funnily enough, importuning was a term for one of the first UK Sexual Offences that caught my attention in England & Wales criminal law when embarking on such grave undergrad study half a century ago.
importunação ; annoyance, Collins.

Example sentence:
USA: Importuning is a criminal sex offense involving the act of soliciting a *minor* to engage in sexual activity. The Ohio revised code Title 29 .
UK: Sexual Offences Act 1956 Section 32 of the Sexual Offences Act 1956 states: It is an offence for a man persistently to solicit or importune in a public place for immoral purposes.

: Gay prostitution among the filing cabinets? I don't think so.

Importuning doesn't have a gay connotation in England & Wales criminal law that you are obviously unfamiliar with and have never studied. If you had, you would have raised this obvious, literal translation that I am using in a country-neutral sense..

: Also used in the US. Check out my reference. I would leave out "immoral purposes". This is a judgment value that does not belong in the translation. // I see. Even if he legislation does, it's still a judgement value that's not in the original.

Obrigado & thanks, Oliver. The problem is - as PG doesn't realis/ze - that it has different (non-)gay, soliciting of minors & prostitutional connotations in different *ENG* Common Law/ Commonwealth countries. PS 'immoral purposes' are part of the E&W def.

sexual assault
This is an approximate and imperfect translation, which I think is all you need, since this is not a piece of complex legal reasoning where exact definitions matter. There is no exact one-for-one equivalence between Portuguese and English.
I'm assuming this is Brazil, since that's where the asker is.
Here's the difference between 'importunação' and assédio':
A importunação sexual trata de crime mais grave e, portanto, com pena mais severa, que vai de 1 a 5 anos. O artigo 215-A do CP também condena a prática do ato libidinoso (que tem objetivo de satisfação sexual) na presença de alguém, sem sua autorização. Por exemplo: apalpar, lamber, tocar, desnudar, masturbar-se ou ejacular em público, dentre outros.
I think in English this would fall into two categories: some of the offences would be classified as sexual assault, and others as indecency. I think 'sexual assault' would be an adequate translation in this context. Again, it's imperfect, because the list doesn't include actual rape.
And here's 'assédio':
O assédio sexual exige que o criminoso use sua condição de ocupar cargo superior no local de trabalho de ambos, com objetivo de constranger a vítima a lhe conceder vantagem sexual. Por exemplo, chefe que ameaça demitir secretária, se ela não atender seus convites para saírem juntos.

Strictly speaking, this is 'obtaining sexual advantage by virtue of one's position', but I think 'harassment' is good enough in this context.

: "Sexual assault" translates as "agressão sexual". I wrote an article on this topic of "agressão": https://n9.cl/7dn3h To my native ears, "agressão" is stronger than "importunação". Also check out Google Translate: https://n9.cl/0nzm6

Your article is irrelevant, and because you're not a native speaker of English, you've misunderstood "assault". Even touching someone inappropriately can constitute assault. And are you seriously citing Google Translate as a reliable reference?

: 'I think in English this would fall into two categories: some of the offences would be classified as sexual assault, and others as indecency' - utter tripe. Indecency in public places and exhibitionism have nowt to do with the category in point.

Sexual Assaultment

importuning for sex
A quote from an interview with Martha Chamallas, an American professor specializing in women's rights, feminist legal theory, sexual harassment in the workplace, etc.
So backlash occurs, even before change has occurred. So it's probably better to call it a preemptive strike. And that's what we're seeing. So this perennially, a kind of intervention or an initiative or we can say, a movement, and then simultaneously, there's a backlash. And what has always been, but as I think, even more vivid and visible now, is that there's a pushback from both the right and the left. So the Katherine Deneuve statement in Le Monde, basically she says that the #MeToo movement has gone off the rails. There ought to be a right to pester. That this kind of importuning for sex is fine. And she goes so far as to say that, that there, really people shouldn't be very upset if a man brushes his sex against a woman on the subway. Ninety-nine prominent women in France signed on to the statement. I thought that that was like a great mix of backlash from the right and from the left. You know, partly, it was from the left in that this idea of “this is censorship, it's going to somehow impair women's agency to talk about this. It is just Victorianism dressed up.” But from the right, it was the same kind of vilification of women who do speak up, as “this is really not that important.” This is something that you can brush off, and that we'd be much better off if you just stay quiet. : Obrigado & thanks for setting {the non-minor child solicitation} scene. I had been familiar with & intrigued by the term of importuning since my Anglo-Am. comparative criminal-law undergrad days and that seems to be lost on ProZ non-lawyers.
