Now we're "getting ready" to picket in support of Sasha, with more of an action verb implication since a picket (at least here in America) is people walking with protest signs and emotional force.

: Especially with "to picket". If you're translating into AE, avoid "a picket" and go with "picketing", "a picket line", etc., depending on how the narrative unfolds. In Europe, "a picket" often means a sign or placard carried at a demo.

though the phrase sounds a bit akward in Russian too and only the speaker may know what s/he implied.

"we are now at the place where prepearion of ... takes place"
maybe this is what is implied. But once again - better to write something simple to be on teh safe side
