bonfire -- forest fire

A bonfire not extinguished may result in a forest fire - something along the lines
Peer comment(s):

neutral Ara Mkrtchyan (X) : "Forest fire" might imply being necessarily in the vicinity of a forest, but not in the yard, for instance.

Sure thing. I just gave an example showing the distinction of the two "fires". However, bonfires are most often put made in the wilderness

unextinguished fire/conflagration

You are right, the word fire covers both meanings. To make the distinction, I suggest you use "conflagration" the second time.

An unextinguished fire can be the cause of a conflagration.

neutral Alexander Demyanov : "Conflagration" brings the connotation of a disaster making headlines, like "California Conflagration of September 17, 1923". I haven't seen it used in the context of safety regulations/procedures, etc.

First: check the references; second: isn't пожар a disaster? It surely is, large-scale or not.

Peer comment(s):

agree Peter Shortall : По-моему "failure to put out" - отличный вариант, звучит очень естественно... а также думаю, стоит уточнить, что это campfire/bonfire. Not sure about "ignition/inflammation"... how about "a blaze"? Not easy though!
