I think for a Spanish context, health care assistant (which means an unqualified, unregistered general assistant) is probably the best equivalent.

: Sure; some other unskilled job titles are 'porter/orderly' for men, especially, and 'nursing assistant' which usually requires a few weeks or months of training. Slang can include 'pink ladies' for patient caregivers.

Yes, "porter", "orderly" (for men), and simply "auxiliary" are much used, too. "Health care assistant" seems a handy catch-all term. Have a good finde, Richard :)

: No, a "celador" in Spain is not a healthcare assistant. S/he's someone who pushes beds around and runs errands in general. I know one personally in Madrid, and he is NOT trained in any way.

Well, if you ever saw a "celador" do those things in a Spanish hospital, I think you'd have some very worried patients :)
