In McGraw-Hill\'s Spanish and English Legal Dictionary by Saint Dahl (2004) it states:

\"fianza: security. By security a person binds himself to pay or perform for a third person in case the latter should fail to do so.
The security may be conventional, legal, or judicial, gratuitous, or for a valuable consideration. ...\"

And, in the same source, for \"aval\" he writes: \"aval: Ava. Special guarantee endorsement.\"

West, in his law dictionary writes: \"aval: guarantee by endorsement [endorsement renders the guarantor jointly and severally liable with the principal debtor]
