Spanish to English Marketing Marketing
this is for a media planning/buying company and they are reporting on a campaign they worked on for a retail client - the sentence is "los soportes elegidos han sido de gran formato, vallas de 8 x 3 m, instaladas en el radio de influencia de la tienda."

I checked on Google for "radius of influence" as I have never heard that particular phrase and it doesn't do too well for advertising contexts. But I'll use it unless you guys n gals think of anything better...

Again, it would seem the expression was borrowed from French in the 1950's. @ Noni: I can't see it as meaning 'inside the shop'. :O)

First reaction was "sphere of influence" but this is the equivalent of "catchment area", so no good I fear.

Hi C. Might simply be "area of (commercial) influence", as per the definition found on:
http://www.hypergeo.eu/article.php3?id_article=220. Note however that the page is itself a translation. :O)

Well, I just found some U.S. definitions for it, in case they're of any use:

trade area
- 1. (geography definition) A geographical area containing the customers of a particular firm or group of firms for specific goods or services. 2. (retailing definition) A geo-graphic sector containing potential customers for particular retailer or shopping center.
