For example:
Thanks!

sera
I would not use the word evolutive at all, a simple listing of the types of serum should be self-explanatory. Sera obtained prior..., serum obtained after ... and sera obtained from relapse patients.

evolutive sera
creo que asi debe decirse
Note from asker:
Thanks for your input, José. "Evolutive sera" appears in a few published papers, but they have all been written by authors living in non-English speaking countries, so I was looking for other options. |

evolving serum / generating serum
The term asked reads 'sera evolutiva' but the context reads 'sueros evolutivos'. If the context is correct this would be the proper translation.
Note from asker:
Thanks for your input, Gilberto. As indicated above, you are right about having the wrong question term, My apologies: It should be "sueros evolutivos". "Evolving sera" comes close, as these are serum samples taken as the disease/bacteria evolves. In this case, "generating serum" would not be correct. |

the development/progression of (serum) samples
"For every patient we have samples of serum taken prior to treatment, and a further record of the development/progression of samples taken after the initiation of treatment/therapy ... ". I think "record of development/progression" gives the idea of "evolutiva".
RAE - evolutivo, va.
1. adj. Perteneciente o relativo a la evolución.

ev·o·lu·tion (from the Random House Dict.)

You can even omit "of the development/progresion ..." as "record" implies this. The "of the evolution ..." is another way to say the same, and is closer to the Spanish original.

active-stage sera sample
I have found examples of
sera inicial and sera final
so wondered whether this might be it, as it appears to refer to sera samples taken during the "evolving" stage of the disease..

Note from asker:
Thanks for your help, Liz. As indicated above, in this instance the disease is Brucellosis. Your final answer is closest to the idea, because the Brucella bactteria levels can be stable, increasing or decreasing. (BTW, active-stage SERUM SAMPLES would be the correct form for your original answer.) |
Discussion
http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dbmd/diseaseinfo/Brucellosis_g.htm...
This text is from a letter from one researcher to another, about investigating Brucellosis.
I can't find another example at the moment, but it has to do with analysing the changes over time of level of a specific antigen, etc. in sera.
