Spanish term

pupa

Non-PRO Spanish to English Other Education / Pedagogy baby-talk
same braod context as previous question.

i can't find a specific word for pupa. "wound" just doesn´t do it for me. do i have to specify 'scratch', 'spot', 'bite', 'bruise', 'rash' etc
at under 3 years and limited exposure to english, i think he is already at the limit of his capacity for new input...

En Argentina no decimos pupa, pero podr�a decirse "te hiciste nana". Igual me parece que las mam�s de ahora no lo dicen... mi mam� me lo dec�a a m�.

Pupa es com�n en M�xico. No s� si en otros pa�ses latinoamericanos.

gracias ltemes... a�n as� es bienvenida. realmente se trata de encontrar una expresi�n en ingl�s con la que me sienta c�modo, porque la tendr� que repetir miiiiiiiles de veces. l�gicamente es m�s probable que me ocurra con ingl�s brit�nico, pero no necesariamente. :O)

Pupa is from Spain, mostly, Bamary... Well, I know that, but here in Panama, if someone said that, nobody would understand :) We just say "me hice da�o", or a very small kid would say "me hice ayayay".

BAmary...."pupa" is used baby-talk in spain when a baby has hurt him/herself....mommy usually says "te has hecho pupa????" "tienes pupa?", etc....

Again, I have exactly the same problem, and find myself saying "Have you got a pupa? I've come to the conclusions that we'd say "I've hurt my (finger)" or "(My finger) hurts"

"Me hice pupa, mamá", dice el niño cuando se lastimó, por cualquier razón. (Se pagó, se cortó, se arañó, lo picó un mosquito... no importa)
No es exactamente "au, ouch", como dice Janfri... no es una onomatopeya, según yo, pero cómo decirlo en inglés, ahí sí que no sé.

You probably won't want to be using this one, but since three-year-olds usually say "I've hurted my finger (or knee, or self, or whatever)", I find I end up saying "Have you hurted yourself?"
