Hello experts,

SDL Trados Studio Freelance Plus comes with an extra activation which means it can be installed on two computers but only one can be used at a time.

When someone purchases this product, he finds "Extra activation" is defined as follows:

If your license comes with Extra Activations, you can use the same license code multiple times in addition to your main license. How many times depends on the version of the SDL product you have bought. Extra Activations are only available with Activation Code-type licenses.

Does it mean the extra activation can be used for a limited number of times? If so, what is the number of times one can use this extra activation of SDL Trados Studio 2015? Is it mentioned somewhere? Don't you think that it will be appropriate to mention the remaining number of times when someone uses the extra activation each and every time so that he can know how many numbers are left?

This is Guillaume from SDL.

The Freelance Plus version with his two activations can be active on two computers on a local LAN (home based connection) at any time. If all the available activations are in use, you will need first to return one activation before activating it on a new computer. The same code will be used for both activations.

There are no limit to the number of deactivation/reactivation a freelance translator can do.

Could you please clarify it? Suppose, I have Freelance Plus version. I have activated it on my PC. I need to go to a different city for a few days and I decide to take my laptop with me. If I want to use second activation on my PC, will I have to deactivate the first one from my PC. Or can I activate on both machines but use only one at a time?

As Guillaume explained, you can have two activations in parallel. In the case you mention, it means that you can use the second activation on your laptop, so that you can work on your laptop while travelling without the need to return the license you are using on your main desktop PC.

Or can I activate on both machines but use only one at a time?


You could use both at the same time, meaning you can move from the PC to the laptop without the need to change anything with your licenses. This is the whole point: you have two PCs, which are both activated and can be used at anytime.
