consequence取“意义”的词义，套这句话的结构也说得通。
consequence取“影响”的词义也说得过去，取“后果”的词义不合适。

影响 is indeed a good choice of words - very appropriate in this context. Sorry to say, I actually didn't notice it being used in the original translation; I kind of skimmed over hj's original post.
