Dear Prozians,

The glossaries (formerly available from ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/msdn/newup/Glossary/) are no more accessible via ftp from May 1st, 2005.

Is there a known alternative?
I was looking mainly for Excel/Access German>French.

Best regards
Juan

?? link is still alive May 12, 2005

Hello,

tried the link and all glossaries are there.

Try it again, maybe with a ftp client software if IExplorer doesn't work

Still not working! May 18, 2005

Dear DSC,

Thank you very much for trying. Nevertheless I cannot acceed the glossaries: "The system cannot find the file specified". As nobody else commented I suppose that I am the only one experiencing this problem.

Could you please paste the URL you are using to acceed the MS glossaries and the software you are using? Thank you in advance.

Best regards
Juan

PS: I was not more successful at
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/glossary/default.mspx
the Office 2000 link is not working!

USE ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/MSDN/NewUp/Glossary/ May 20, 2005

The link might be case sensitive. Try using ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/MSDN/NewUp/Glossary/. If that doesn't work try entering ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/ and double-click on MSDN, NewUp and Glossary.

Good luck,
Olaf

Tey must have taken them offline May 20, 2005

I am afraid Juan is right, they must have taken them offline.

I have just tried ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/MSDN/NewUp/Glossary/ and all parent directories both with IE and WSFTP and it does not work. WSFTP says Can't get " ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/MSDN/NewUp/Glossary/" host entry.

I also tried http://www.microsoft.com/resources/glossary/default.mspx but I could not find multilanguage glossaries there.

This might be quite a problem for future sw localization!

Luca

Glossariesn moved May 20, 2005

The glossaries (formerly available from ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/developr/msdn/newup/Glossary/) are no more accessible via ftp from May 1st, 2005.

Microsoft posted a warning in January stating that glossaries wouldbe moved to MSDN in May.

Is there a known alternative?

Subscribe to MSDN to get the glossaries on CD. Check
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;140764

they are still available May 21, 2005

Hi! you should enable passive ftp in your browser settings, then you can access the glossaries. In your browser IE 6.0 it is inthe menu tools->internet options, mark the suitable option box to activate pasisve ftp service via browser.

Brandis

GUI to Microsoft® Glossaries with Built-in FTP May 29, 2005

Hello,

You may also try http://www.winlexic.com which we have released yesterday. It already contains Built-in FTP. And because we have found out that Microsoft FTP server may be very busy sometimes, we have included support for using mirror FTP sites. So far we have found only one reliable mirror site in Sweden (with weekly updates) but other mirrors may also exist.

Your opinion would be most welcome.

Best regards,
Vladimir.
