Profile automatically changed back to old format

Hello ProZ Staff,

I have no idea why my profile, which I set up in the new format some months ago, today at several occasions has automatically changed back into the old format.

This happens even if I manually change to new format and decide to have this new format as default. When I check this up one hour later, I see the old format again.

I want to make sure that any profile visitors really get to see the new profile format and nothing else.

Any ideas about the reason for this strange behaviour? Thanks.

Best regards
Erik

The same here Nov 3, 2006

At the moment I see your new profile format, wich way do you see mine?
(especially if you click on http://www.proz.com/translator/27075 ? I have set mine as "new design" by default, but for me the above address opens as old one. I too already asked for Staff programmers' advice.

Serious bug Nov 3, 2006

Thanks for discovering a serious problem. I just searched for 'freelancevertaler' on Google. Both the link to my profile at http://www.proz.com/translator/38122 and the Google cash show my old profile.

I've opted in since day one.

Regards,
Gerard

Same here Nov 4, 2006

Five minutes ago I logged in and my profile was showing in the new format. I then did a test Google search for another purpose and the link I clicked on took me to the old format. I've also opted for the new format since day one.

Only one link shows the new profile Nov 4, 2006

This link http://www.proz.com/profile/113000 shows the new profile.

This http://www.proz.com/pro/113000 and this http://www.proz.com/translator/113000 show the old profile.

The same for you, Chris, and for all profiles I checked.

Lucia

Hi Erik Nov 4, 2006

From what I know (these are my own observations), the links to profiles in some site locations (including KudoZ) lead to old profile format.

For example, move your mouse over the link to your profile here, at this forum page, and you will see that the link leads to the new profile format:
http://www.proz.com/profile/21654

At the same time when you are in KudoZ, it is something different. For example, take a look at your answer in any KudoZ page, and you'll see that the link is different:
http://www.proz.com/pro/21654

I think that submitting support request in order to draw the programmers' attention to this issue would be the best way.

Natalia

Hi Natalia,

Thanks for your suggestions. You're absolutely right about the addresses - any address with "pro" will lead to the old format, whereas the "profile" will give the new profile. But does this mean that every member (or user) will have to wade through thousands and thousands of KudoZ answers to change pro into profile?

It would be an easy thing to remedy this automatically , but: the original address style for all profiles (with "pro") was changed into profile, translator or interpreter (can be set up individually, Settings > Other settings > Search engine settings), which means that some members decided to take "profile", others picked "translator" and some are "interpreter".

It's just strange that this happens now all of a sudden, after we have had the new profile format for some months without any problems of this kind.

Support request already submitted to ProZ staff, let's wait and see if they can find this bug. Thank you to you all here in this forum for your friendly help.

Erik

Profile format bug found and fixed Nov 6, 2006

Hello all,

Thanks so much for pointing this bug out. I went ahead and fixed the problem that was causing the old profile format to come up via the /pro URL even if you selected for the new format to come up.

Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused any of you.

Best regards,
Justin
