Hi everyone,

I recently installed Translation Office 3000 (version 10) to keep track of my jobs, pricing, invoices etc. I have found it to be an excellent and easy-to-use bit of software. In fact, I find it so useful, that it basically handles all my information on jobs and invoices. And this brings me to my problem. After a few nasty experiences early on in my career, I learned the importance of backing up my files, and now use memopal to back up my translations online in real time. But how can I back up or export all the info contained in TO 3000? Would I lose it all if my computer blew up, were lost or stolen? This would be, quite simply, a minor disaster. And what if I simply want to get a new computer and need to transfer my TO 3000 database over to it?

I imagine (hope) this is a simple task, and that one of you IT experts will be able to help out...

Thanks!

Simon

TO3000.fdb Apr 11, 2013

Dear Simon,

That's easy: Locate the database file ("TO3000.fdb", usually C:\Users\Public\Documents\TO3000\db) and include it in your regular backup routine.

HTH,
Erik

Outside TO or inside TO Apr 11, 2013

You can back it up as part of your regular backup routine like efreitag mentioned.

If you want to back it up outside TO like efreitag said look for the TO3000.fdb file, however if you are using the latest version of TO it will probably be in this folder and not the one efreitag mentioned:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\AIT\TO3000, Version 10\db

You can also do backups from inside TO, by clicking on the top menu on "Settings", then on "Database" and in the window that opens you can click on "Backup" that then opens a windows where you choose your backup location.

TO3000 - backing up database Apr 12, 2013

Hi Simon,

My two cents on the subject. Please make sure you back up the actual work-related files (the "Business" folder) as well.

Database and Business folder Apr 13, 2013

Hi Simon,

In addition to the database, back up the Business folder as well - this is where your invoices, templates, etc. are stored.

I'm happy you like the software

Cedomir

Vladimir and Cedomir, thanks very much for this extra bit of useful advice! However, I don't know where this folder is!

At C/Users/Public/Public Documents/AIT/TO3000 Version 10 I have the following folders:

Backups
CatCount
db -- [and this is the one I have now included in my automatic backup]
Import
Queries
Reports
Settings
Temp
Templates
Updates

but no sign of one called "business". Any idea why this could be? Or is it located somewhere else? And would the db folder and this "business" folder be enough for me to restore all my information in terms of jobs/prices/preferences etc.? I.e. to have the same situation as I did before any PC problem or change of computer?

Thanks for any clarification you can provide, as always!

Simon

'Business' folder in TO3000 v.10 Apr 13, 2013

Go to Settings->Advanced->Folders and have a look at the path to your 'Business' folder.

You may change the path. Personally, I keep this folder on an external SSD drive which I use as my mobile office (with ThunderbirdPortable to handle my email which is also kept on this SSD; by the way, all my Trados TMs and termbases are on this SSD as well).

Keep in mind that if you change the path to the 'Business' folder in TO3000 you will still need to move the folder manually to the new destination, as this change will not affect the existing files kept in that folder.

exporting in a readable format Oct 8, 2014

In the same thread: is there a way to export all my client database in a 'readable' format (that I can read outside of TO3000)? I see that you can extract a PDF for each client, with all the client specs, and that is what I want for all my clients. I recently quit using TO300) (although I really like the software) because they don't have a Mac version.
I could export my client db one at a time but that will take a while...

thank you!
