There are plenty of Google hits (seemingly from all over Germany), so you can select something to suit your client\'s purposes (and the country your client is going to). Specifically, I avoided using \"grammar school\" and \"high school\", because both are very culturally specific.
If you search in google (extended search) for \"berufliches Gymnasium\" combined with vocational OR grammar OR school, you will find English texts calling it a grammar school, other texts calling it a high school, and yet others sidestepping this choice.

As the KMK (Kultusministerkonferenz - the \"horse\" in my opening line) is the highest national education authority, it may even be worth giving the above URL in a footnote in case the recipient wishes to see an authoritative description of the school system.

I used to teach at one of these. You're probably dealing with someone in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
Another possibility is to use Gymnasium and put 'grammar school' into brackets. The explanation is usually enough for modt people unfamiliar with the system.
