MARBLE
It is a noble material, known and used since ancient times: a natural product resulting from a millenary crystallization and metamorphosis process. Its laying has always been followed by smoothing and "lead" polishing. For a certain time, marble remains shiny, it does not require self-polishing metal waxes which, among other things, would badly stick onto the surface, and it can be easily washed using a low-residue, possibly ammoniacal, detergent (CLEANING 2000). Treading causes, as time goes by, the loss of its brilliance and, from then on, the floor can be waxed only with REPOLISHABLE METAL waxes and polished periodically using felt brushes or yellow or white disks.
Such waxes get matted by any floor washing detergent; therefore, waxing must be repeated after each wash, or a good repolishable washing-waxing product may be used instead (LUCHY WASHER-WAXER).
The use of self-polishing metal waxes at this stage would be correct if all the surface to be treated had evenly lost its lead sealing. But this is not what usually occurs, since untreaded areas keep their brilliance longer and on such areas one would have a more precarious anchorage than with self-polishing waxes. What is more, modern vitrifying techniques exist nowadays which are capable of restoring the brilliance of the most spoilt areas; results are good but less lasting then with lead polishing. The use of vinyl curled doormats slows down the wearing process to the detriment of the waxy layer and, as a consequence, of the floor.
