French term

à pleines dents

French to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters expression
I know what this means, but I'm searching for an English equivalent, or something close - it needs to have the word 'tooth' or 'teeth', if possible.
Slow Saturday brain...
TIA!

Debbie Tacium Ladry (asker) Apr 29, 2006:
...and 'The Pearly White Show' - kind of corny, but there you go...
Debbie Tacium Ladry (asker) Apr 29, 2006:
Ah, yes, sorry. It's the title of a small science exhibition about teeth. I have been offered several possibilities, but none of them translate the expression (not necessary, but they just don't do it for me)
e.g. 'Take a bite!'; 'It's all in the Teeth'...
Carolingua Apr 29, 2006:
More context would be helpful...

The Whole Tooth

and nothing but the tooth!

agree Nick Lingris : Though it suggests rhotacism.

True, though I think most people will take it as a play on words. BTW thanks for teaching me a new word (rhotacism)!
agree Rachel Fell : and agree with Sandra (about the vocabulary expansion)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I liked many, I groaned a lot, I appreciated them all, but this one appeals a lot. Also: rhotacism - wow. :-)"

Can You Handle the Tooth?

get it? pretty bad, huh? but it's a science exhibit - corny by definition.
Note from asker:
Mwaha! (had to say it out loud, and it might grow on me.) It's definitely no worse than the original title they wanted: Feeling Toothy. :-(

Take a bite ... with your pearly whites!

For a bit of humour: what about the familiar expression "pearly whites? "

Sink your teeth in...

Sorry, blame it on the Monbazillac ;-)
Note from asker:
Reminds me of a popular Canadian radio show: Writers and Company. Good thing it's a weekend, or I'd feel guilty using up all of this talent. ;-)

open wide/say "ahh"!

Well... how about:

Open wide!

or Say "ahh!"

...both of which should bring nightmarish trips to the dentist immediately to mind, even if they don't actually contain the word tooth/teeth!

Or "something to get your teeth into"/"get your teeth into this..." etc.

say cheese/with all your bite

I'ts difficult...all the expressions I can think of sound kind of corny...like "say cheese" (not the same at all as the French expression, I know, I was just thinking about a big toothy smile...). I just thought of "with all your bite" (a word play on "with all your might")...Someone else suggested "the pearly white show", that's not bad.

just want to add one more: "To the Teeth" (it's an expression too though I can't remember exactly what it means...)
Note from asker:
mmm - Tooth or dare, for some reason I like that one, except that it reminds me of Madonna.... Now, about Toothorama...;-)

The Tooth Fair

Not close to your French, but as an appropriate title for the exhibition and an obvious allusion to the Tooth Fairy.
