Durch die unterschiedlichen hydrogeologischen Bedingungen entsteht ein enormer Kontrast der Pegelstände, der besonders durch eine wenig durchlässige Störzone aufrechterhalten wird.
Mittlere Niederschläge verursachen nördlich der Störzone Schwankungen in den weitgehend ungestörten Bergwasserverhältnissen, südlich davon bleiben sie ohne Wirkung.
Any idea how to translate "Störzone" or if there is a specific technical term for it? For the moment I have used "critical area", but I am not so sure about this. Thanks!

Die dritte TBM fuhr oberhalb der Kraftwerkzentrale eine stark wasserführende **Störzone** an, welche mit vernünftigem Aufwand maschinell nicht mehr durchfahren werden konnte.
With the third TBM a highly water bearing **fault zone** was encountered shortly upstream of the powerhouse cavern. With reasonable effort a further advance with the TBM was not possible.
