French term

indistincte

mechanical, blanket

Indistincte here means routine, unthinking, blanket: they do high value-added items in house and outsource cheap items.

manufacturing policy varies according to the product type - ...

I think that a straightforward translation such as 'manufacturing is not indiscriminate' sounds quite bizarre in English. Hence I would suggest completely rephrasing this along the lines that I have suggested. It keeps the meaning and sounds much better - to my ears at least!

discerning or undiscerning

Here is what is says...

Manufacturing is not undiscerning : only high-value articles are manufactured in-house

Here is how I would say it...

Manufacturing is discerning : only high-value articles are manufactured in-house

I do not see the need for the two negatives [not] [un], which change the context to positive.

I THOUGHT ABOUT IT SOME MORE :

I think your best bet would be : \"FOCUSED MANUFACTURING\"
Peer comment(s):

disagree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : 1 - (un)discerning works for people, but not for manufacturing. 2 - The use of the "pas in..." is a bit of linguistic licence, I suppose, to accentuate the very point being made.
