Japanese term

収まりの良い

Japanese to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
The topic is how the steering systems feel while driving in 3 different cars.
車Aに対し、車Bと車Cは振動のピーク低く、
段差乗り越し後の減衰も大きめ。
感覚上もクリアでキレ(収まり)の良いフィール

What would 収まりの良い be?

Thanks.

short settling time

収まり, in this case, means to come to an end. This is talking about vibration after a shock, and I think 収まりの良い car spends a short time before the vibration diminishes. Technically, it is called a settling time. It's somethig like the figure you see in the link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Settle_time

I am more curious to see how you might translate クリアでキレの良いフィール. Maybe sharp and crisp handlling?

Peer comment(s):

agree Derek Newpor (X) : This seems similar to "settling time" when oscillations are attenuated following a transient, eg with an operational amplifier

a good settlement (or ending, or conclusion, etc.)

Just a literal translation : 収まり means "settlement", or "an end", etc.

finely tempered to respond faithfully

あえて訳すと、感覚上もクリアでキレ(収まり)の良いフィールは、
They convey a crisp and pleasant feeling with their steering capability finely tempered to respond faithfully.
とでもなるでしょうか・・・。(車Bと車Cのことを指しているので、主語は複数形。)
「収まりの良い」にこだわらず、思い切って全体の意味を表現する方向でいったらどうでしょうか。
これ、もしかして、コピーライティング用の文章ですか。
