By the way, you probably already know this but just in case : Chaos is used as a geological term here, rather than meaning "disorder".

According to the Grand Dictionnaire Terminologique, chaos = Entassement sans ordonnance de rochers. Ex. chaos granitique formé par accumulation de grosses boules granitiques dégagées par l'érosion.
They don't provide an English equivalent though. Perhaps something along the lines of "astonishing rock formations" could work.
