Sotto altro profilo

Non-PRO Italian to English Bus/Financial Government / Politics
Le prime due le ho tradotte :"On the one hand", "On the other hand". Per un testo politico, non andrebbe meglio "On one side" e "On the other side"? Forse potrei rendere il terzo aspetto con "On a further side/hand".. Che ne dite?

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (1): Oliver Lawrence

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Fiorsam May 11, 2010:
Oliver and Jim, do you agreee?
Fiorsam May 11, 2010:
Yes, I think that would work.
traduzionigs (asker) May 11, 2010:
So.. do you think I can use "On the one hand", "On the other hand" because I am talking about two options and then "From another perspective" (or "another point of view" as Oliver and James say) ?
Fiorsam May 9, 2010:
I don't believe that there are 3 options here. There are only two in the first paragraph, and then there is a change of perspective or point of view (a different way to consider the situation) beginning with the second paragraph.
traduzionigs (asker) May 9, 2010:
traduzionigs (asker) May 9, 2010:
Grazie Fiorsam. Si, avevo letto che "on the one hand/on the other hand" è un'espressione idiomatica. Effettivamente On one side, on the other side, era stata una mia "idea".
Comunque, "from another point of view" credo vada molto bene.
@Oliver Lawrence:Thank you so much! What do you think I can use to say "Da un lato" and "da un altro lato"?
I will write the whole context if it can help.
Oliver Lawrence May 9, 2010:
Context, as Fiorsam says, could be a determining factor here, as I don't believe this is a fixed formula and the best phrasing could depend on the actual content.
Oliver Lawrence May 9, 2010:
Don't use "on the one hand"/ "on the other hand", because those constructions imply that there are only 2 alternative viewpoints from which to consider the situation, whereas in this case you say that there are 3.
Fiorsam May 9, 2010:
contesto Sarebbe meglio se mettessi tutta la frase in contesto
Fiorsam May 9, 2010:
on one side/on the other side This is not idiomatic either. In English you would say: on the one hand/on the other hand
Fiorsam May 9, 2010:
on a further side/hand not idiomatic english

neutral Oliver Lawrence : I think it is important to have something like 'another' or 'further' or 'additional' in it, like your second suggestion
