sanitary sheath
I translate from French to English and have experience with animal husbandry terms as I have translated materials related to artificial insemination for various groups of beef and pork producers in New Brunswick, Canada.
Example sentence:
Put a sanitary sheath over the pistolet to prevent contamination before it enters the reproductive tract of the cow.
The catheter was protected by a sanitary sheath that was broken immediately before the catheter passed through the opening of the cervix.

Endometrial samples for cytological examination
were collected using a non-sterile Cytobrush Plus GT
(Medscand Medical, Sweden) modified for use in this
experiment. The handle was shortened to 1 cm and
threaded to enable it to be inserted into a stainless steel
rod (65 cm in length, 4 mm outside diameter). The
cytobrush and stainless steel rod combination (Fig. 1)
was guarded by a stainless steel sheath (50 cm long,
6 mm outside diameter), covered with a plastic sheath
(Chemise Sanitaire, IMV Technologies, France),
lubricated (Triad Sterile Lubricating Jelly, H&P

: The correct term is "sanitary sheath" rather than "plastic sheath" which is too general. Please see the link to IMV Technologies in my answer.

I don't think plastic sheath is completely off the mark, judging by the quote I give, which sounds exactly like the French context given. Plenty of evidence of use of 'plastic sheath(s)' in AI context.
