German term

Mondgucker

Non-PRO German to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc. ungewöhnlicher Beruf
Found this term in a list of "ungewöhnliche Berufe" in a German language textbook for school-going children.
Other terms in the list are
Mondgucker, Sonnenanbeter, Tierstreichler, Schönwettermacher, Fragensteller, Antwortgeber, Gesundpfleger.

Mondgucker a moon-gazing idiot

....but this obviously doesn't qualify as an "ungewöhnlicher Beruf".

Any idea what a "Mondgucker" does professionally?

May 6, 2017 15:27: barbarameyer Created KOG entry

May 6, 2017 16:38: writeaway changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): philgoddard, Thomas Pfann, writeaway

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

franglish May 5, 2017:
@Barbara Whether "Mondgucker" nor any on your list are actual professions. They were made up for whatever purpose, though I like the images and the fantasy they convey.

moon gazer

I think it is irrelevant what a moon gazer actually does. They are not really supposed to be professions. (If I understand it correctly)
Peer comment(s):

agree Michael Martin, MA : Not completely irrelevant. The technique here is to turn ordinary things into something extraordinary (real professions). Kinda cute.

I just meant irrelevant in the list. In the further context, if there is any, that may be different.
