French term

secteurs cristallins

French to English Science Environment & Ecology
This is a document about a conservation project for freshwater pearl mussels in the Haute-Dronne river.

In this part of the document they are talking about a captive breeding programme. Here is some context:

I am unsure about what the term above means. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Alison

thank you Phil. :)

No, it's not the first time. I've found the document online, and "secteur" means a stretch of the river. Crystalline sectors are those where the river bed is more crystalline.
philgoddard Jan 16, 2018:
It appears to be a geological term, but I don't understand why it suddenly appears with no explanation. Is this the first time it's used?

crystalline areas

The Freshwater Pearl Mussel population of the Upper Dronne aren’t renewing sufficiently due to clogging. To remedy to this threats 16,000 juveniles will be reared in captivity and released into the environment. ...
Indeed, the crystalline areas are areas containing many metals, some of which were exploited, leading to release in the environment of toxic metals (arsenic, cadmium ...).
