Also a good observation, I would also be inclined to think "a sample FOR the culture" with the context (not much) but "de" just does not fit that.

neutral whoever : It should be "for" not "from". The sample is taken from any body fluids for example, and then sent to the lab for cultrure to detect any bacterial growth
