Dutch term

aan de kaak stellen

Non-PRO Dutch to English Other Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
Van Dale zegt "expose" maar dat vind ik te sterk en te roddelblad. Of denounce. Suggesties?

In dit programma worden onethische promotie-activiteiten aan de kaak gesteld.

few more:
uncovers, reveals, brings to light, perhaps even blows the whistle on. Lots of options - depends on the tone of your piece really. I'm thinking in terms of 'this programme turns the spotlight on unethical....', hence the use of the third person singular in my suggestions.
Note from asker:
turns the spotlight on, great! Just what I was lookig for.

agree Barend van Zadelhoff : VDale: openlijk tentoonstellen als verachtelijk of slecht, aan bespotting prijs geven. Misschien kun je het nog wat scherper maken: turns a sharp spotlight on, or something.

Thanks. Yes, or perhaps 'turns a critical spotlight on'
agree Chris Hopley : "lift the lid" is quite nice too

It does have a certain murky connotation... Thanks, Chris.

neutral Tina Vonhof (X) : I think this is too strong.

neutral MoiraB : me too

neutral Barend van Zadelhoff : Ik vind het bezwaar van "denounce" niet zo zeer dat het te sterk zou zijn, maar dat "denounce" het doen van kritische uitspraken in het openbaar impliceert, terwijl "aan de kaak stellen", zonder verdere context, een breder begrip is.

what about "put on the spot " ?

expose

past hier precies - roept bij mij geen associaties met roddelbladen op

blow the whistle on

blow the whistle on means sort of to expose or tattle on. It is often used in reference to organized crime or corrupt institutions, suggesting that it is something the public deserves to/should hear.
Example sentence:

Los Angeles has the most corrupt police force arond until someone on the inside blew the whistle on their actions

If this activity keeps up, i"m going to have to blow the whislte
