smagliatura

My mother and my grandmother are experts in knitting and sewing. They both agree that "smagliatura" is the term to describe a tear, pull or break in the fabric as by dictionary definition of "snag". "Smagliatura" is the correct term to translate "snag a stocking" as can be seen by the dictionary definition in Italian. I feel the term is also more technical in line to the kind of text you are translating

Sorry, "smagliatura" is obviously the noun, "smagliare" is the correct translation of "to snag"
