English term

Context

English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters general
"Furthermore, the health consequences include chronic illness such as heart disease, liver trouble, urinary tract abnormalities, sexual disfunctions and smaller testicles - for that reason alone the gamble isn't worth it - especially for a hooker like mylsef."

- I don't understand how "hooker" is used here. Apparently it's not used as a "prostitute". I even asked my native English speaker husband and he did not know. Maybe it's British English????

Thank you.

Thank you elena. I was referring to Kim since he suggested earlier that the term meant a male prostitute" Thank you
Elena Petelos Mar 18, 2005:
I am suggesting rugby player, not prostitute, and now that I've seen the notes you have added I think it's more than likely. :-)

Maybe I need to provide more context:

I don't think it's used as a prostitute, because looks like the presenter is one of the organizers of a conference (I'm translating a power point presentation about DOPING) and this is a part of the introduction speech.
Non-ProZ.com Mar 18, 2005:
of using anabolic steroids
