English term

will call service

English Marketing Marketing
"Where will call service is available, a Distributor may pick up the order at the will call location."

What is a "will call service". I googled and found not very many hits but none tell me what it means...

[A service in which a store will set aside items for a customer, to be picked up at a later date.]

This is what the term means.

agree Will Matter : Exactly right. Used to be used in department stores, specialty shops and similar establishments, not so common these days. The item was stored / put aside, with the understanding that the custoner "will call" for it (eventually). Hence, the name.

Yeah. This is a term that I also remember mainly from my childhood (i.e., the sixties and seventies) and that I've not seen in a long time. Todah rabah, Will.

will collect

I found this explanation:

Will Call is a old theater term meaning the patron will "call on" (come by) the box ... Most theaters and sports areas have a window labeled "will call"

So it just seems to mean that it's a service where customers can "call by" and collect their orders.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Will Matter : Close. This applies to purchased items of one type or another. Either goods or, as your example partially demonstrates, *tickets* for sporting events, theater, ballet etc.
