French term

shoppers

French to English Marketing Advertising / Public Relations designer handbags
From a text on the brand's communications strategy:

- AUTRES MEDIAS
Le nouveau concept publicitaire est désormais décliné sur l’ensemble de nos outils qui constitue de véritables medias : PLV en place sur l’ensemble de notre réseau : catalogues consommateurs, éditions presse, ***shoppers***

The only thing I can think of is a personal shopper, but then I don't know that a person could be considered a medium... Any thoughts?

It looks like Lidija's comment to Bourth could be your answer!?
Laurel Clausen (asker) Apr 17, 2007:
Hi again, I would tend to think that is probably not the right translation in this instance, since the text refers to its own tools "nos outils" and is a designer brand, so its new collection is not likely to be sold online (you can't even buy off their own website). Any other suggestions? Or do you think I'm wrong in my impression (always possible)? Thanks!
Julie Barber Apr 17, 2007:
I meant TV channels. Although I was thinking maybe it is just shoppers.....not sure! word of mouth is a huge media if you think about it! I think it would be fair to ask your client to clarify anyway...

Hi Julie, I'm having a hard time getting my brain jump-started today - what do you mean by "channels" here? Thanks!
Julie Barber Apr 17, 2007:
or online shopping sites....
Julie Barber Apr 17, 2007:
shopping channels? just a thought

bags

Could it be "shopping bags" (the bag they put your purchase in)? It could carry a visual or logo.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This makes the most sense to me, as I can easily imagine the faux movie poster being printed on the side of a shopping bag, but not on the actual product itself. Thanks for all the suggestions!"

shopping magazines

I mean the free magazines that come in the post that are 99% adverts. There may be a better term for them but my brain seems to be on holiday today :)

shoppers

It's new to me, but the word is certainly used in French, it seems, in reference to shoppers (people).

I suppose the moment you carry a plastic or paper bag out of the shop you have just bought something in you become a 'media'. And the following day, when your new jeans proudly display "Bernard-Henri Levy" on your right hip, your new shirt tells the world your name is "Christiane Doiré", and your handbag tells everyone you drink Mouette Hérisson (or is that Luis Vaurien?), you are still a 'media' ...

neutral Sandra Petch : I found these references too but they don't seem to fit the POS context. Although as my dad always says, brands should pay us to wear their logo-infested clothes as it's advertising for them!

agree Lidija Lazic : je laisserais aussi ce terme mais dans son propre sens: publicités gratuites qui envahissent nos boîtes aux lettres

agree LM Loh : I think store events such as contests (no purchase necessary), free makeovers, etc. are also forms of shopper marketing, in that they offer an experience or product to shoppers/customers in the hope of turning them into consumers.

personal shoppers

As you, Laurel, yourself suggested. I haven't yet seen this this in French, but it fits. ("Personal shopper" - in UK at least - is a sales assistant who does your shopping for you... offers garments to try etc. - as you no doubt know.) And why not person as medium? In fact it's person as tool. Business is business.
