"Comme nous l'avons vu dans le chapitre sur l'injection essence, le calculateur permet de traiter les informations venant du moteur (info T° d'eau, sonde lambda, capteur PMH, …) afin de commander les différents actionneurs (injecteurs, bougies, régulateur ralenti, …)

Pour expliquer comment cela marche, prenons comme exemple la cartographie d'injection :

Pour savoir quelle quantité injectée, le calculateur utilisera donc une sorte de tableau ou seront mémorisé les temps d'injection en fonction du régime moteur et de sa charge (info provenant du débitmètre d'air ou du capteur de pression d'air, voir ici pour plus de détails). Ces tables ont préalablement été réalisés sur un banc de puissance ou l'opérateur en charge des essais modifie le temps d'injection, pour un régime et une charge donnée, et validait celui qui permet le meilleur compromis pollution / performance. Ensuite il passe à une autre charge (ou à un autre régime) et valide un autre temps d'injection.

A la fin des essais il peut donc en sortir un tableau ou seront donnés tous les temps d'injections pour chaque régime/charge. Ce tableau est ensuite mémorisé dans la mémoire du calculateur appelée EPROM ou EEPROM. "

From a search on Google Books with "engine cartography" a few rather technical soruces describing engine cartography in relation to data fusion.

"The engine of modern vehicles works along this scheme... The process laws are called engine cartography.

From the link you can make out this is a cartridge kit or a cartridge fork kit. From the limited context available this is my best guess.
