French term

référents

French to English Marketing Retail
The document I am translating outlines how this clothing brand is planning to redesign its stores to make them more attractive to customers. I don't understand what 'référents' means in this context!

"Le regard est guidé par un éclairage soigné tout au long d'un nouveau parcours, alternant nos key looks et thèmes, référents & accessoires avec des élements forts de storytelling..."

Any insights would be much appreciated :)

Thanks for letting us know. Might remember that one for future reference!

Hi ladies. Just to let you know I consulted with the client in the end, as I had another couple of queries. I ended up going with 'fashion basics' for this term, so we were on the right track! I won't enter it in the glossary as it seems to be quite specific to their brand. Thank you both for your help :)

All very helpful :)
Anne Greaves Apr 11, 2018:
Sounds about right. Standard product lines perhaps?
Paula McGowan (asker) Apr 11, 2018:
Thank you, Anne! I was originally thinking along the lines of "signature" products, but I wasn't too sure...

Found a website in Fr/En where produits référents was translated as well-known products.
Paula McGowan (asker) Apr 11, 2018:
Maybe it is just the same thing???
Paula McGowan (asker) Apr 11, 2018:
Yes, thanks Wendy, I have come across "références" meaning products before, but I'm not sure about "référents"!
Wendy Cummings Apr 11, 2018:
reference "references" in a retail context can sometimes just mean "items for sale". e.g. produits référencés dans le magasin.
