French term

condamnation correctionnelle

French to English Law/Patents Law (general) convictions
This is from a Belgian "casier judiciaire": it is preceded by the heading "condamnations criminelles" (to which the correct reply is "none"), then "condamnations correctionnelles" and finally "condamnations de police".
If "condamnations criminelles" = criminal convictions and "condamnations de police" = police convictions, any ideas for "condamnations correctionnelles"? Could it be civil convictions?

Thank you in advance.

emprisonment

une piste peut être :

A distinction is made in the French spoken in France between emprisonnement: peine correctionnelle privative de liberté de six mois à dix ans au plus (Section 131-4) and réclusion criminelle: temporaire (trente ans au plus, dix ans au moins) ou pérpetuelle (Section 131-1).

disagree BusterK : the difference is between "crimes" and "délits", the penalties for the latter being smaller, either in cash or prison.

criminal conviction

The distinction between Tribunaux de police, Tribunaux correctionnels and cours d’Assises depends on the penalties or consequences attaching to the offence. Tribunaux de police (local courts) hear misdemeanours/petty crimes: monetary fines only (French: contraventions). Both Tribunaux correctionnels et Cours d’assises hear felonies.Tribunaux correctionnels: they are intemediaries between Police and Assises. They hear lesser felonies (French: delits). Max jail term 10 years. Cours d’Assises hear other felonies (French: crimes)
Peer comment(s):

agree BusterK : en précisant "lesser" ou un équivalent poiur distinguer des criminelles ou en précisant "tribunal correctionnel" dans un cas et "cour d'assises" dans l'autre.
