roof line

I've just had this in a translation for **, quite a well-known car manufacturer, and I had to ask for an explanation. It refers to the "line" of a car, or "sheerline", for example where doors close against the pillar, there must a smooth flow or transition from one surface to the other partly for aerodynamic reasons, partly because it looks better. So although mpB is not by any means far off the track, this was the preferred translation I was given.

roof skin

Strak is a modelling (CAD) term with different meanings from grid construction to "tangenten- und krümmungsstetiger Flächenverlauf"

In the automotive industry it refers to producing construction models from design models:

Strak-Konstrukteure setzen mit viel Verständnis für das Design die aus der Design-Abteilung kommenden Entwürfe in gültige Konstruktionsdaten um
see: http://www.tu-dresden.de/absolventen/magazin/archiv/3-2000/b...

Under the following link "Strak" und "Außenhaut" are used as synonyms, and I think this also applies to your question.

So there: Außenhaut = skin

Als Zielanwender boten sich die CAS-Designer ("Surfacer")
an, bei den Automobilpartnern sind das die Strak- bzw. Außenhautabteilungen
