Discussion

Gillian Scheibelein May 7, 2009:
Yes, but that wasn't clear from your original question - hence my request for context!
David Williams (asker) May 7, 2009:
Indeed It's a risk and hazard analysis, after all... Sorry I didn't say that in the first place.
Gillian Scheibelein May 7, 2009:
Gefährdung durch Energien und beitragende Faktoren
howzabout: risks due to energy emissions and other contributory factors. It is definately about hazards/risks
David Williams (asker) May 7, 2009:
Found a reliable ref! That's "Energy hazards and contributory factors"
See: Medical devices — Application of risk management to medical devices

David Williams (asker) May 7, 2009:
Energien und beitragende Faktoren What about "Gefährdung durch Energien und beitragende Faktoren" in the same context?<br>"Risk due to energy emissions and contributory factors"?<br>
David Williams (asker) May 7, 2009:
What sort of device is it? It's a tissue processor
Gillian Scheibelein May 7, 2009:
what sort of device is it?
David Williams (asker) May 7, 2009:
Not "substance-related" The "stoffliche Faktoren" aren't "substance-related", they are substances (liquids and gases/vapours). If I translate the "Energetische Faktoren die vom Produkt ausgehen" as "energetic factors emitted by the device", would "substances emitted by the device" work (although Google doesn't agree, it only likes "substances contained/used/produced by the device" etc.).
Gillian Scheibelein May 6, 2009:
what is listed under "energetische Faktoren" and what sort of product is this? Is it a device or a material?

substance-related factors

Possibly "substance-related factors" as opposed to "energy-related factors", see following example:

Energy-related factors that should be considered include noise and vibration, ...

*Substance-related factors that should be considered include discharge of chemicals, ...

Note from asker:
Hmmm, I'm not convinced by "energy-related factors". I wrote: "The only energetic emissions from the device are:"
"Energy-related factors" doesn't look very appropriate in the Ghits IMHO.
Peer comment(s):

agree Lirka : it's a safer bet to say factors

substance-related hazards

Without more context it is difficult to tell, but it looks as though the text could be referring to different types of hazards

Is this a medical device? If so the "energetische Faktoren" could be EMC-related: interference/immunity, i.e. energy-related hazards
Note from asker:
Yes, spot on! It is indeed a medical device. Thanks!
So would you agree with "energetic factors emitted by the device"?
Peer comment(s):

agree Dr. Johanna Schmitt

neutral Lirka : I am hesitant because hazards is a step further from what the original text says
