German term

Lastenpflichtenheft

German to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
I know that 'Pflichtenheft' is often translated as 'specification' and 'Lasten' are 'costs' or 'charges'.
Could this be translated as cost specification?

Discussion

Helen Robertson Jun 2, 2010:
You also see the term Lasten-/Pflichtenheft, so maybe it is a misprint. I have a feeling that the Lastenhelf contains the client's specifications of what it wants, and the Pflichtenheft is the specification of how the contractor will provide it (Wikipedia confirms, by googling "Lastenheft" on its own)
Erika Berrai-Flynn Apr 6, 2010:
See http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lastenheft
Es ist korrekt, dass der Begriff Lastenpflichtenheft eigentlich nicht existiert.
philgoddard Apr 6, 2010:
I agree with Victor, and I would translate both as "specifications". I wonder if it's a mistake, an (almost) non-existent word. It only gets 20 Google hits.
Victor Dewsbery Apr 6, 2010:
Usually separate terms Lastenheft & Pflichtenheft And it depends on the industry involved (construction, product design, process design or whatever).
Lastenheft could be: design brief, project proposal, sometimes specifications (perhaps drawn up by the client, specifying what the client wants).
Pflichtenheft: specifications (often this is the list of the technical requirements for the contractor/manufacturer).
Depending on the details of your text, you may be able to get away with using "specifications" to cover the whole compound word.

load specifications

If the German term should really read "Lasten-/Pflichtenheft" then the correct answer is already given.
If the term is about "Lasten" = loads then here is an alternative...

See for instance Flat roof design - Load specifications under www.maybenow.com/Flat-roof-design---Load-specifications-q28...

Or "vehicle and load specifications" under http://www.cfeonline.org.uk/x16761.xml
