"ABC is genauer als Röntgen. Aufgrund der hohen Meßgenauigkeit kann man auf *eine* Röntgenmeßaufnahme verzichten."
Referring to some sort of measuring instrument for use in root canal therapy. It is apparently more accurate than taking an X-ray.
The word "eine" here is in italics, which I have tried to convey by putting an asterisk on either side of the word.
Do they mean, "The high measuring accuracy means you don’t need even *one* X-ray to measure a canal"? If not, what exactly are they driving at, and what is the purpose of putting "eine" in italics? TIA for your help.

I completely agree with the other answers. Putting *eine* in italics definitely seems to imply that one of several x-rays can be omitted.
So I checked if usualy several x-rays are takend for a root canal and found only references to one.
Since this is contradictory I am wondering if it would be possible to ask the client about the exact meaning....

I found a detailed description of how this x-ray business for root canals works. It is too long to paste, so here is the link. Please look under 2.2
It seems that first there is a diagnostic x-ray (Röntgenaufnahme), then you insert the instrument and do the \"measurment x-ray\" (Röntgen*meß*aufnahme) I don´t know the English term for this.
But from what I found there is definitly only one \"Röntgenmeßaufnahme\" while there might be several x-rays...
I would try and get some confirmation from the client though, unless there are any dentists out there

: In the light of your search results, I'd say that "eine" was mistakenly italicised (perhaps to do with more than one source doc. version) - and I agree with asking the customer.

I actually cut-and-paste the sentence putting "eine" in italics to see how it looked and am now wondering whether it means that you can avoid "one of the X-rays" i.e. you can avoid one X-ray as opposed to X-rays altogether.
That's the impression I get. They seem to be emphasising the "one". Perhaps the technique has to be used in combination with X-rays....
