(challenge for a) 50-50 ball in midfield

It's when two soccer players go for (and kick or have contact with) the same ball and the ball is therefore deflected, emerging from the fray in some unintended direction.

Then, one of the players falls to the ground, taking care not to disturb his perm, and writhes about on the floor screaming as if he's just been carpet-bombed by Henry Kissinger.
Peer comment(s):

agree jerrie : I love your..."and what happened next...", mind you it's more intricate plaiting than bubble perms these days ;- ))

My mistake. FWIW (from the BBC website): David Beckham was highly impressed when he heard that Nelson Mandela had been in goal for 26 years.
agree Cilian O'Tuama : but not necessarily in midfield - how about 'simultaneous contact'?

I was trying to think of something a commentator would say. ("Midfield" is in the question.)

Like the man said: awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Homicide Henry proved that the Norwegians do have a sense of humour after all.

what the exact term in American or English soccer idiom would be but a Pressschlag (New German Orthography) or Press-Schlag is the situation when two players hit the ball simultaneously

Hope you can go with this explanation
Peer comment(s):

two-way trap [ball]

the ball remains dead on the pitch because of the opposing forces of two players striking it flush

or just press ball
Peer comment(s):

agree Kathi Stock : trap ball is how I know it

neutral Cilian O'Tuama : not the same thing - a trap ball is when you have your foot on top of a ball on the ground, preventing it from moving. Only one player needed for that. Preßschlag always involves 2 players (at least) trying to kick the ball at the same time.
