German to English Social Sciences Psychology validation of health apps
The researchers used web searches to find health apps that deal with depression. How does "entlang" make sense here? I guess this is a non-pro question.

Der in dieser Studie angewandte Suchstring wurde entlang der depressiven Störung bzw. Depressivität entwickelt.

Thanks!

Change log

May 3, 2018 09:28: Steffen Walter changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Johanna Timm, PhD, Anne Schulz, Steffen Walter

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Susan Welsh (asker) May 2, 2018:

search string was conceived with the aim of retrieving results along the lines of depressive disorder etc.

Source sounds like a back translation or something like that, not idiomatic German.
Note from asker:
Thanks Michael. It's always gratifying to learn that it's not "just me"!
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : Maybe, but this doesn't convey a clear meaning to me. "Along the lines of" usually means "in a similar way to".

I'd change that to "in a way similar to" or "in the way of"
Something went wrong...
4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Now that I know it's not "real German," I feel free to translate it in a way that makes sense in context: "The search string ... was developed to capture depressive disorder or..." All they want to do is find apps that purport to deal with depression, using various terms ("depression," "low mood," etc.). Thanks, Michael and Phil! (No gloss entry - it wouldn't be helpful to anyone.)"
