There may be a more technical term, or there may not. When an insurance company reinsures it is passing out the risk on its policies, but it won't pass it all out. It will keep some of it, the amount it can afford to lose.

Yes it would definitely seem to be the term.

| Later last night, I actually came up with "retention" and found confirmation for it in the Guy Carpenter reinsurance glossary, so I think either "retained risk" or "retention" would work - thanks! |
